What is X‑Dek™?

The X‑Dek™ product family includes long-span, thermally insulated sandwich panel roofing systems designed for flat roofs. The product combines a load-bearing element suitable for long spans, a high-quality thermal insulation core, durable external metal decking and a waterproofing membrane.

The X‑Dek™ product variants allow for the use of various types of waterproofing and fastening methods:

  • XM: This roof panel type comes factory-equipped with a plastic waterproofing membrane. PVC and TPO are available options. Thanks to the product’s compact design, installation time and costs can be significantly reduced. The required waterproofing is available almost immediately after installation, allowing for installation less dependent on weather conditions.

  • XD: Thanks to its steel top sheet, the product offers increased load-bearing capacity from a structural standpoint. It provides a sufficiently rigid and even surface for any waterproofing system installed on-site, whether bonded or mechanically fastened.

X‑Dek™ panels can span clear openings of up to 6 metres, depending on structural and fire safety requirements, and offer faster installation compared with conventional built-up roof systems. The panels’ inner ribbed surface is coated with an off-white plastic finish, creating a clean interior appearance.

Structural design

  • Span lengths of up to 6 metres.

  • Suitable for flat roofs.

  • Choice of factory-installed (XM) or retrofitted waterproofing material (XD).

  • Various fastening methods depending on the supporting structure, including steel, concrete or timber.

  • No secondary support structure required.

  • Maximum available panel length of up to 16 metres.

  • Clean, painted and washable internal surface.

Quick installation

  • Special vacuum lifting equipment provided by Kingspan to support installation.

  • Compact product design and partially automated installation for faster construction times.

  • Dedicated fastening methods, such as Opticore screws and pre-drilled fixing points.

  • Reduced number of separate materials required for installation, such as vapour barrier film, thermal insulation fasteners and slope-forming materials.

Interior surface

  • Clean, white and washable internal surface.

  • High-rib design suitable for suspending various mechanical components, including lighting fixtures, sprinkler pipework, heating and air-conditioning ducts, ventilation systems and other equipment.

Warranty

X‑Dek™ sandwich panels are manufactured with two types of insulation: IPN and QuadCore®. For QuadCore® panels, Kingspan offers a warranty of up to 25 years on thermal performance, in addition to the standard warranty and depending on project requirements.

Benefits of X‑Dek™ roof panel systems

  • Prefabricated, insulated flat roof sandwich panels for long-span applications.

  • Suitability for spans of up to 6 metres.

  • Composite panel system enabling fast installation of up to 600 m² of roof area per day, depending on project conditions.

  • Joint-free panel design supporting appropriate air and vapour control in the roof build-up.

  • Product design and installation technology supporting construction in a wide range of weather conditions.

Features of X‑Dek™ panels

X‑Dek™ is a sandwich panel system developed specifically for flat roofs. It can be used on roofs with a pitch from 2%, while the composite design and simplified installation process help reduce the risk of installation errors.

The high load-bearing capacity of the panels is supported by a high-rib trapezoidal steel sheet with a minimum thickness of 0.9 mm.

The panels can be installed directly onto concrete, steel or other load-bearing structures, removing the need for secondary support structures and helping reduce material requirements.

X‑Dek™ panels can be installed in a wide range of weather conditions. Unlike conventional built-up roof systems, installation does not require long dry, rain-free periods, helping reduce interruptions caused by the risk of rainwater or moisture ingress.

The closed-cell insulation core provides thermal insulation across the full cross-section of the X‑Dek™ panel. This can help reduce heating and cooling demand, depending on the building design and operating conditions. The rigid insulation core also allows safe access across the panels during installation, helping reduce the risk of indentation.

Thanks to the low self-weight of X‑Dek™ panels, typically 16-27 kg/m² depending on product specification, potential savings may be achieved through more efficient structural design. The panel may also contribute to structural rigidity, depending on project-specific design requirements. The compact build-up thickness of approximately 21-25 cm can also help maximise internal clear height.

A compact panel element can replace traditional multi-layer roof systems. The external surface of X‑Dek™ panels allows different waterproofing membranes to be used, either factory-applied or installed on-site, giving flexibility for investors, architects and contractors. Kingspan can provide the necessary accessories for different technical and junction details, including plastic waterproofing strips, coated metal sheets, cover plates, fixings, seals, rooflights and fall protection devices.
